Hello to Barrie's Band and all YCHS Band Alumni; It is hard to believe that 3 months have gone by since our September 6th dinner reunion, but believe me, our association is a long way from over. Our Alumni committee has been meeting on a regular basis since then and all of us are happy to report that it looks like we are going to continue as a group or should I say family for years into the future. I am happy to report to you that we were able to add another $500.00 to the initial donation made to the present high school band for a grand total of $2500.00 to be used for band instruments. The music department reported back to us that they had ordered a new silver sousaphone and case, which had a cost of approximately $3100.00. Our meetings have revolved around our continuing as a group and they always seem to be filled with plenty of ideas of things to do. Most of us want to continue as a support group for local musical education and we have a lot of other ideas such as traveling together, dinners or meals together, musical scholarships and the biggest desire of all was to continue playing together as a band and having fun together. It has been a source of pride to those of us who have stayed involved to hear a good many reports of people who joined the band after us who really would like to have been part of our alumni gathering. Due to this, our committee has decided that we want to include any YCHS Alumni band member in our group. Let's face it we are getting older {except for John Kuster} and it makes good sense to continue our association for years to come. We are happy to report to you that Bob Holmes, the district music coordinator has tentatively offered to help us as both a member and leader of our developing alumni band. We are very lucky to have his offer of help because We are sure his life is plenty busy already. .To those of you who didn't play in the alumni band before now, we strongly advise you to join us. It is an experience that you will long remember. At this time we really look forward to your continuing your membership with us. Being together is everything. Whether you join us as a playing band member or just as an alumni member, we want your attendance. Our next meeting is going to be on January 17th,2004 at the Andros Karperos Middle School on Walton Ave. at 3:00PM Saturday. We tentatively plan on a couple of hours of music and then retiring to another address for pizza, discussion, fun and friendship. It would be appreciated if you could get back with us and let us know if you are going to play and your feelings about being there to continue our association. We look forward to seeing you and wish you all a happy holiday season. Of course you know we all miss you and look forward to being together again.
Oh Yeah-Brass Rules, (from val -> WOODWIND POWER!!!!) Please contact us if you are planning on attending - to play (this is for fun, not performance so no pressure!) or just to join in the fun........so we can plan for music etc. |
