Just a short note of thanks to Canoe West for a really great experience that you provided our Scouts... they could not say enough about the fun that they had, what they learned, and the Class 3 runs of the last day. The outing will be something that will live in their minds always. Henry Allen, Scoutmaster, Troop 199 |

| Is your troop ready
for an exciting as well as educational outing while working towards their Whitewater Canoe
Merit Badge? Our staff of instructors have been working hard for over thirty years
developing just such a program. The course that we provide not only allows the participants to experience river travel in a beautiful mountain setting with abundant wildlife, but helps them become competent canoers, learning river rescue and safety. Many of our return groups are now handling class 2+ and class 3 rapids quite expertly. |

Our canoeing program
emphasizes safety and fun! You not only learn how to get down the rapids, but to
catch eddy turns, do screaming peel outs and surf
waves. Most of the time we base camp at one of the U.S. Forest Service Campgrounds and drive to a different section of the river each day, returning in the afternoon to our camp. We encourage establishing a base camp because unladen boats mean easier paddling and more opportunities for play, and the instructors can select a section of river each day that is right for the group. |

The
Wild and Scenic Klamath River is one of the best canoe teaching rivers in the world. The
water is warm (a rarity in big Northern California rivers) and the various sections of the
river lend themselves to a good teaching progression. |
