Make Your First Contacts
Nothing happens unless you share
As with all things in life, there is no
easy, overnight success in NEWAYS Mutual-Support Marketing. Each
person must work hard to earn their place among flourishing
entrepreneurs. The price of any success is long hours, hard work,
tenacity, unyielding persistence, and a commitment to support
those you invite to join with you. You must want to help others
achieve the same dreams you have for yourself. You must stay with
them, empathize with them, nurture them, and help them every step
of the way.
For most people, the primary motivation for getting into
network marketing is to either earn a little extra income or
become financially independent.
Now that your 48-hour orientation is behind you, it's time to
start contacting the people with whom you want to share NEWAYS.
Review your accomplishments
with your Sponsor:
- Cover all areas of the Marketing Plan.
- Review your goals daily. Make it second
nature.
- Evaluate your new opportunity. Take the
time to gain a meaningful perspective of what NEWAYS has
to offer you and your friends.
- Look again at the quality of products
you have to share. Continue using them faithfully. Work
at becoming the most knowledgeable "benefits
expert."
- Concentrate on at least one specific
product in a system each day. Become so familiar with
that product that you can answer any questions you may be
asked.
It is important to have sufficient
inventory. You cannot sell from an "empty case." With
your Sponsor, decide which systems and sales aids you want on
hand. Review the material in the Distributor Kit to determine
which items will work best for you.
Work with a single package concept and
practice arranging sales around the system. Work closely with
your Sponsor. Allow them to give you direction.
- Learn everything you can from your
Sponsor about the procedures he/she recommends for
retailing. Become a team player. Teach your people to
duplicate what you do.
Start your enterprise by keeping simple,
achievable goals for yourself. (Each time you attain a goal be
sure you mark it off.) Be consistent. You set the example for
your people to follow.
- Your professionalism and enterprise is
important. By keeping your calling and work area picked
up, the family will respect your space. It becomes an
integral part of your new life.
- Talk to your Sponsor about setting up a
Home Meeting or a Product Class. Get organized as soon as
possible. Set a date and start preparing now!
- Catch the spirit of network marketing!
Prepare yourself for the challenge.
- Acquire a schedule of NEWAYS meetings
in your area. This schedule is printed regularly in the
Company newsletter. You can also call SoundWays to find
out what meetings have been scheduled in your area. Plan
to attend each meeting.
- Identify the key people you have named
on your list. Without prejudging who may or may not be
responsive to the opportunity, go through those names and
contact each individual.
- Remember that successful
people, secure in their career, are best suited
for NEWAYS. Make the opportunity available to
each one.
- Invite them to join you at your
Home Meeting, an Opportunity Meeting, or an
upcoming Product Meeting.
- Listen to the audio cassettes included
in your Distributor Kit. The information on these tapes
will help you to understand all aspects of the NEWAYS
opportunity. When you feel you have a solid understanding
of how the Marketing Plan works, start sharing the
opportunity with the enthusiasm that brought you into
NEWAYS in the first place.
Setting up appointments by phone, making it
happen
- Make a minimum of 10 solid calls per
day before you allow anything else to interfere with this
important procedure.
- Often the list of people with which you
are working will have individuals who are too busy to
talk when you call. They are not picking on you. They are
genuinely involved. Be patient.
- Many may want to talk to you but will
ask that you get back in touch with them. This is quite
typical in most calling sequences. Simply accept it as a
sincere request that you follow up. Call when it is more
convenient to their schedule. Fill out a card and get
back in touch with them.
- Plan and make three 3-way calls with
your Sponsor or an Upline Executive. This is the most
effective calling method.
Because the initial challenge of picking up
the phone to call and invite someone to a meeting can be rather
intimidating at first at least for some people simply work with
the premise: "That which you persist in doing becomes
easier; not that the task has changed, but that the ability to
perform improves." Ask your sponsor to help you with your
first few calls.
- Probably the most frequent frustration
you will encounter is the "not home" syndrome.
It may seem as though every single call or every other
call will not be answered or will be answered by a
machine. Don't let it get you down persistence!
- Sometimes the person you are calling
will not want to talk to you about anything you share.
Don't take it personally even if it is a good friend;
that's just the nature of the situation.
- Never get discouraged. Not everyone is
going to be responsive to the NEWAYS opportunity. They
may not want to take advantage of the opportunity.
A Few Reminders
- You are not supposed to be selling
anything over the phone. Just set up an appointment or
invite them to the next scheduled meeting!
- When making calls, if the party
indicates they are disturbed by your call excuse yourself
graciously and withdraw from the conversation. You are
not paid to sit and listen to other people's animosity,
anger, or frustration.
- You are being paid to share your
Opportunity with as many people as you can conveniently
contact at a given setting. Some people will be disturbed
by your call. That's their problem. Don't let it become
your problem.
- Remember this simple rule: SW, SW, SW:
N! Some Will, Some Won't, Someone is waiting - Next!
Take a few more minutes to review the names
you have listed. Most people can readily identify at least 200 to
300 names. You should not be content using any list with fewer
than 50 names. As you attempt to contact people you have
identified, it becomes much more obvious why you want as many
individuals as possible with whom you can work. Add to your list
daily.
MLM is a sorting business. You will find that you will want to
work with those individuals who make and keep commitments. Spend
80% of your time with those who do 80% of the business.
Start right now identifying your leaders. Name a minimum of
ten top flight, dynamic individuals as your
"Front-Line" achievers. These are people with whom you
will want to build your exciting new business. With your sponsor,
do three-way calls and/or two on ones with them. Help them build
a strong, active downline.
Scheduling your time around significant responsibilities is as
important as the air you breathe. You must be free to call people
at convenient and practical time slots.
- Organize your own time around specific
personal tasks and all family matters.
- Familiarize yourself with your
prospective contact's routines.
- Use your NEWAYS planner to note calls
you make. Indicate the time and date, nature of response
and mark the date when you plan on contacting them again
whether or not they may be interested later. It's a good
idea to record personal and family tidbits, to be
"remembered" and referred to in later
conversations.
- Don't try to remember everything. It
never works out. Recorded information is much better than
hit and miss assumptions!
Decide in advance what calls you have to
make in order to contact a sufficient number of people to build
your organization. Don't be content with just a few calls. The
law of averages will always catch up to you. Set your goals.
Never compromise with less than sufficient calls to meet your
goals. Do this on a continuing basis.
- Contact a friend, an acquaintance, or a
stranger in person today. Get into the habit of talking
to people each and every day.
- Remember the "Three Foot
Rule:" If you're within three feet of a person, talk
to them about the NEWAYS Opportunity. Share the
excitement of the products.
- Tell what the products are
doing for you. Encourage them to try at least one
item.
- Always carry samples to give
out in a casual, comfortable way. Be sure you
obtain their name, address, and phone number.
Give them your card. Invite them to the next
scheduled meeting.
- Always follow up on the samples
you have given out. Help the prospective customer
or Distributor realize the unique quality of
NEWAYS products. Teach your people what makes
your products singularly distinctive.
- Approach your contacts with
confidence. Always be enthusiastic. Always assume
they will buy or enroll.
- Once you have made contact with
your prospective customer or Distributor and have
talked about the available opportunity, jot down
as much information as you can remember about the
conversation.
- Be sure you make contact with your
Sponsor each day for a while. His/her help,
encouragement, and continuing support will give you the
courage to keep trying some of the more difficult tasks.
- Have him/her review with you
what he/she likes best about the NEWAYS
Opportunity.
- Get more company background.
Find out more about corporate integrity.
- Make sure you understand the
procedure for sponsoring your own new
Distributor. Review all literature on sponsoring
or establishing your network.
- Never forget the simple rule: SW, SW,
SW: N! Build a resilient spirit of enthusiasm and
confidence.
- If you have not yet done so, set a date
for your first Home Meeting with your Sponsor or Upline
Executive. Choose an approach that best suits your
personal interest and conforms to the type of Home
Meeting program with which you prefer to start.
- Begin by identifying those
individuals on your list with whom you would like
to be associated.
- Decide on a date that will not
interfere with any previously scheduled company
or Upline Sponsor's Meetings.
- Check community and school
calendars. You do not want to create a conflict
of interest.
- Make sure there are no family
activities or events that someone else has
scheduled at home for that particular night or
day.
- Review the
"Retailing" section of your manual.
There are specific details and helpful hints on
how to prepare for and conduct successful
Personal Care Clinics.
- Coordinate the event so that your
Sponsor will be able to join you. Always utilize the
mentoring support available through your Sponsor and
Upline Executive.
- The key to Mutual Support
Marketing is continuing upline support! Invite
your Sponsor to actually participate in the
meeting. Ask them for advice on a more efficient
use of time and personnel.
- However, many Sponsors may be
unavailable at the time a meeting may be
scheduled. In network marketing a Sponsor may be
in an entirely different part of the country. In
such instances just innovate. Set up a conference
call from your Sponsor or possibly even an upline
expert who will enhance the meeting.
- Be sure you set up the
circumstance well in advance. You will
need a speaker system to broadcast the
message to your attendees.
- Best of all, have
another Upline Distributor or Executive
help you. After all, they are getting
paid an override on your efforts and have
a sponsoring responsibility, too.
- Do not hold it against
your Sponsor if for legitimate, practical
reasons he/she cannot always be there for
you.
- You will also want to make advance
preparations for the display of products at your Home
Meeting. There is a wide variety of ideas with which to
work. Much of the fun and excitement in Mutual Support
Marketing is right there in your Home Meetings.
- Get the creative juices flowing. Survey
the area in which you plan to hold the meeting. Determine
what would work best - how you can best dress the area
for product interest and highlight.
- Consider brass candle holders
and various sized beveled glass or mirror shelves
for levels and variety.
- Attractively wrapped boxes for
level variation work well. So do clear plastic
cubes.
- Use attractive fabric for
covering various sizes of boxes or platforms.
- Floral arrangements will
enhance the area as well.
- If you haven't already done so, review
the marketing program. Understand each feature of the
Marketing Plan. View the Marketing Plan video to learn
every aspect of the Marketing Plan.
- One of the most exciting
aspects of the NEWAYS Opportunity is the
Marketing Plan.
- Learn everything you can about
all aspects of this dynamic and financially
rewarding program.
- Practice telling someone else
in the business about the Marketing Plan. Keep
practicing until it all becomes second nature to
you. You will gain the confidence you need to
share it with strangers.
- It may take a while before you are able
to get the numbers of people attending these Home
Meetings up to your desired goal. That's OK. Just be
patient and work hard.
As we move rapidly through this transitional
decade into the 21st century, never before has there been a
greater need, or a more exhilarating opportunity for helping
others while "Bridging the gap between science and human
need."
