High School PE

Policy

Here are some guidelines for PE that will help students to succeed and receive high marks:

1.   Students are required to change for PE even if they are ill and not participating in the planned activity.  Individuals failing to bring their school clothes to change into will not be allowed to participate, receive a zero for the day and a PE Progress Report Form.  The form must be signed by a parent and returned the following PE class or an after school detention will result.

2 .  In order to participate in PE class, students must wear the  official RCS PE uniform.  The orders form is available in the school office.  Cost for the uniform is $20. It is a good idea to have two uniforms, especially at the high school level. Students are not to deviate from the uniform and need to wear appropriate socks and shoes.  Girls need to remove hoop style ear rings for safety and all need to remove watches, bracelets and necklaces. It is a good idea to have separate shoes for the gym and for the grass field. Cleats are to never be worn on the gym floor.

3.  Grading:  Students are graded daily. Each student starts with 3 pts. a day.  If students are in PE uniform, actively participating, and demonstrating good attitude and sportsmanship they maintain all three points.  If they are not in uniform, they may not participate and lose all three points.   Individual points are subtracted for poor effort, attitude or tardiness.  This accounts for 75% of student grades.  The remaining 25% is based on written tests and the Presidential Physical Fitness Test, which is completed once a year.

4. Students unable to participate need to have a signed note from a parent.  If the student is unable to participate for more than one week of school, a doctor's note is required.  When possible a student should participate in PE  whenever possible if they have a minor sickness or injury, completing what ever activities they are able to.  Too often students sit when in reality they could be active in an alternate way.

5. Students have lockers available to them to store their PE clothes and personal items.

6. Students need to provide their own lock for the lockers if they want one.

7. Students are encouraged to shower after PE class, however they must provide their own towels.

8. All students are required to use the glass doors facing the High School Building to enter and exit the gym for PE class.

9.  When returning from a PE class outside, all students are required to remove their shoes.
