Fourth Quarter - Classics
Classic Novels – Themes Book Report
Due Tuesday, May 3, 2011
Your report is to compare the themes and writing techniques of three classics you have read in junior high. Theme means the lessons learned by the main characters. For instance, courage may have been a main focus of the novel. The theme is what the novel taught about courage. (Hint: Theme is not one word (courage). Rather, theme is a sentence stating a message about a topic such as courage.)
Introduction: (Hook) Connect to the reader (Taste) State your book titles-only the three discussed in the report. Mention how there is similarity between the three novels. (Thesis) This needs to be a statement to cover the theme focus of your report.
Body Paragraphs: Discuss the way the theme is presented in each novel.
Conclusion: Write about connections (similarities/major differences) between the books. You can present opinions as to how believable or convincing the themes were presented.
NOTE: The conclusion paragraph is the most important part of this book report. Make sure you take time on your analysis. More words should be devoted this paragraph.
