As you can see, this is one of the most
beautiful stretches of track in
the world.
Mt.Shasta is the largest "by volume"
Compound Strato Volcano of the Cascade Range.
Mt. Rainier is taller but it's base is at a higher
elevation than Mt.Shasta's , perched atop
the older "Western Cascades"
mountains, which is an older phase
of the range.
Below top is a shot of the Northside
of Mount Shasta.
The second photo is looking
south down The Sacramento River Canyon.
You are still on the southwest side of Mount Shasta
from the lower shot.
This is by Mott Airport on I-5 Hwy.
The actual photographs are from the train.

The above shot was taken from
a southbound train.
From this viewpoint,
we're looking down on the old north end
of the siding called Small.
This was removed due to the
1991 derailment and hazardous material spill
at Cantara Loop.
