peoplereading.jpgCelebrate Adult Education and Family Literacy Week 2010

September 13 - 19, 2010 is Adult Education and Family Literacy Week! Recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and supported by the National Coalition for Literacy, this is a one-time only dedication to raise public awareness of adult education and family literacy, assist adult learners in need of literacy services, and support increased access to adult education and family literacy programs. Siskiyou County Library Literacy Program provides free learning help to people of all ages.

Free learning coaches available in all local libraries to help anyone with reading, writing, math, GED and test preparation and other learning needs. Ask at your library or call Mary Jane Bolton, coordinator, at 841-5916 or 938-5916 for more details on how you can become a learner or volunteer to be a learning coach. Please leave a message with your name and phone number. Learners meet with their coach in their nearest branch library and work at their own pace, on their personal learning goals.

Budget Update 6/23/10

The Board of Supervisors approved a bare bones 6 month budget for the library system. There will be limited hours and limited staff for the following four branches to remain open: Yreka, Mt. Shasta, Etna, and Butte Valley. As of July 1, Yreka's new hours will be Monday-Thursday 1pm-5pm. Other possible branch closures or changes in hours are yet to be determined. This site will be updated as more details are finalized. Please call 841-4175 if you have questions.
