RADIO LOG
Notes- Brief participation in the 24hr event this year, due to other commitments. Trinity Journal printed nice story about "Field Day" with mention that local Hams doing individual participation this year.
I have participated in "Field Day" events since 1963 as a 15year old kid, in Marin County, in SF Bay Area, Northern Calfornia. The Marin Amateur Radio Club fielded about 15 people, towed 20KW WW2 Surplus runway lighting generator, food tents, operating tents, Operators, Loggers, Generator maintenance, Event manager, Red Cross Officials, etc. It was aways a fun experience and went a long way towards preparing me for operating under various conditions in years to come, like Anchorage Earthqake/Tsunami, etc.
Later years would find Greg in the Sierra Mountains on Fishing Trips during Field Day, on Coastal Beach Locations, Urban and Sub-Urban locations with one or two people. From 1993-1999 the Koolau Amateur Radio Club fielded about 10 people, and a couple operating positions from Oahu Hawaii operating through Tropical Rainstorms.
This year, contacting Maui, Hawaii was highlight with the low power radio and whip antenna as was the group in Sacramento Area that had very large Set up with several transmitting stations simultaneously. Perhaps in 2006 we will be able to mount a small group effort in Trinity County, perhaps including our Emergency Communications Unit/Trailer and make it a PR Event.
