HAYFORK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Old Hayfork Jail, Circa 1930s
Hayfork is located in Northern California's Trinity County in the Hayfork Valley. It is the second largest community in Trinity County. The scenic valley floor and the surrounding mountains compliment the modern frontier-like lifestyle. The local ranches, homes, business, government and professional services all share that special way of life that is uniquely Hayfork.
In September it is host to the Tribal Stomp for 3 days of family fun and entertainment. The Independence Day Celebration in July is literally spectacular, with local internationally famous fireworks company, Fireworks by Boom Boom, providing breathtaking fireworks displays.
Established in 1851, as "Kingsbury", then it was called South Fork, subsequently Hay Town, then Hayfork in 1854 because of the large amount of Hay and food grains produced in the area and the proximity of the North Fork of the South Fork of the Trinity River. There was a Lumber Mill in Hayfork for many years, but changes in the Forestry has closed the Mill. There is plenty of property, resources, pro-business government and local labor for light industry, in this scenic rural area.
The nearby Natural Bridge, a geologic formation is nearby and is an important Indian Historical Site. In 1921, the Trinity County government established a county fair. It was so successful that the money earned was used to purchase what is now the Hayfork Fairgrounds. The annual Trinity County Fair is held each year in August, except during WW2. Visitors from around the world who come to see one of the few remaining true rural fairs and unlimited recreation opportunities in the National Forest are never disappointed.
