A little bit of history of this project that started in the late '90s....
8 Years plus, 9,000hrs, 860hrs a year, 4hrs a day....7days a week... Think about it! Greg Greenwood has paid 97% of the expenses to keep the Project on the internet for 9 years. This now includes 8 plus websites, and the Internet Engine that drives the Trinity economy online. (all generating expenses) Thoasands of Search engine returns bringing people and prosperity to us! He also provided all the web design work, updating calendars, authoring pages, building websites late into the night,etc.
Many of you may have read the "TrinityCam" FOREST FIRE REPORTS in 2001, 2006 and 2008, where Greg brought information not availiable anywhere else, night and day.
People have little understanding of the joy and feeling of accomplishment that doing such a thing can generate...seeing what one person can contribute to an entire county.
It is ironic that Greg can nolonger afford to pay for the expenses to provide this valuable free service. He is resigned to the fact that if it is not funded by donations & advertising sales, he will fund a simple project that is only a fraction of the size. (It will do amazing things...but it will have only paid listings... what a concept.. actually making money for doing the same thing.) His first choice is to continue to find a way to fund the whole project!
Supporting ALL of Trinity County for FREE...until it could eventually fund itself.... Only a very small percentage of the hundreds of Business enterprises, NGOs, Government entities, and Community Groups that are promoted for FREE for years would be enough to keep the "project" on the internet, and increase financial support to insure that it, or successor organization would be working for ALL OF US!. Unfortunately, that has not ever been the case.
All of the usual sources that fund other projects in Trinity County have been contacted, most all have not even been courteous enough to reply to letters, phone calls and e-mail.
Even most all of the major business organizations that the project supports have declined to financially support the project that provides pictures, links, text and information that they have decided not to provide. (except past short-term support by the Hayfork Chamber and HTRA...Thanks!. )
Greg became concerned that he failed to explain clearly what the project does, it is a very complicated project. This year he went back and recontacted everyone, to make sure that they understood what they were not supporting, and what it does.
He is now satisfied that he made clear what it does, and that there is just no interest by these groups in funding promotion of the entire Trinity County Business Community online.
The amazing cross linked group of websites that all have one thing in common...they promote ALL of the business and communities in the county. TrinityCam.com, Fishtrinity.com, Trinity County.info, TrinityLake.info, HayforkValley.com, WeavervilleCam.com and others..
All websites feature links to the FREE BUSINESS DIRECTORY (The county's Largest) and the Tourism and Event Calendar. It features most of the traditional events, with contact information for each event listed. It has been very difficult to get correct information through the years, everyone thought someone else was providing these valuable services.

The TrinityCam INTERNET INFORMATION PROJECT's massive internet engine that drives our Trinity Economy on the internet has been functioning for 8 years...it is ESSENTIAL that it stay in place!... No project and websites (8+yrs)...hundreds of pages that draw people here, thousands of "highly places search engine replies will be lost,etc. ..
Even the "TrinityCam" webcam that acts as a beacon to thousands of folks everyday...displaying, rain, snow, FIRES or sunshine...it is there! - FREE BUSINESS DIRECTORY - TOURISM and EVENT CALENDAR- etc.
The project marketing and research always revealed that the disfunctional Trinity Economy that this project serves, would never make it as a commercial success, but clearly could pay it's own expenses, with a little left over. Unfortunately, aparently when you do a great job for free it has no value......until it is gone...

What on earth is the "TrinityCam Internet Information Project" Anyway?
Answer: I will hit the highlights, follow THIS LINK for an overview that shows what I have done for last eight+ years and the how well it is proceeding.
Original and subsequent marketing indicated it would never be a commercial sucess... Covering the expenses to keep the project online has been the goal. I have NEVER made a dime personally...these sort of websites only function and profit in healthy robust local economies.
It has always been about "artificially influencing" the Trinity Economy...to give a boost into the future.... much like the guy that built the baseball field in the corn field... BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME... well tourists from around the world have been coming to Trinity!... but the very business community that profits from it has not seen fit to support it. (That is OK, it is important only that they know that they had an opportunity)

WHY ARE YOU ASKING FOR HELP NOW.....YOU NEVER DID BEFORE?
Answer: I had been hopeful that I could personally continue paying all the expenses as the last 8 years to keep this engine of commerce online myself as it grows to self sufficiency.
However, my personal circumstances have changed, and I am nolonger able to fund all of the expenses related to keeping the project on the internet. The business enterprise that I used to fund it had to close, too much negative cash flow for too long.
I knew that the eventual addition of advertising revenue for banners, links, etc. would eventually pay all the project expenses. In fact,ironically, the first paid advertising banners have just materialized, and more will likely come from this public information campaign. Needless to say, for over 8 years, and over 7,000 hours of my web design work, market research and designing this internet information engine I built "actually does some amazing things" to make Trinity County an even better place in many ways.
TOURISM IS THE FUTURE OF OUR TRINITY ECONOMY...... I realized that 10 years ago, that is why we are where we are on the internet now! It is time for the community to invest in it's own future, now that I have shown that it actually works! (TOT revenue increases, etc.)
Eventually, if it materializes, many other internet related businesses may come to Trinity. However, the lack of access to a fiber-optic primary and a back-up with distribution to areas that can support the enterprises will have to be present before we can expect wide-spread penetration of widband. .
Frankly, the upside of the "TrinityCam Internet Information Project" is great, and I am personally very proud and amazed of the success of my single-handed efforts. The fact that most people inside Trinity County do not and will not ever know about my project was never an issue....I wanted it to be about an expanding Trinity Economy, not ABOUT ME.
However, I also am aware that there is a downside... IF THE PROJECT LEAVES THE INTERNET FOR LACK OF A COMPARATIVELY SMALL AMOUNT OF FUNDING NOW... all the zillions of search engine replies, positions, websites and pages promoting all of our county leave too.
Simply put... This would be a real shame, and ADVERSELY EFFECT THE ECONOMY have worked so hard to artificially stimulate.
THIS ENGINE HAS ALWAYS PROMOTED ALL OF THE COUNTY and PROVIDES ESSENTIAL INFORMATION SOURCES...IT WOULD BE BE MISSED. THE MONEY IT GENERATES WILL BE MISSED EVEN MORE.... I am here to bring attention to this situation, to help insure that 8 years of effort will live to generate the revenue to sustain itself through advertising and other funding sources.
So...These are the areas I am exploring, and seeking your assistance to keep it going and updated.
Ironically they could not act to save the VERY WEB PROJECT THAT HAS ACTUALLY INCREASED TOT REVENUE.... What a concept!
I also brought to the attention of the very same TOT reciepients that I provide web services to for free...to consider donating part of their funding... There have been NO affirmative replies to this suggestion.
I can nolonger provide these web services, so they have ended.
YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED IN ANYWAY TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS EFFORT...this is not some kind of extortion....It is an effort to bring attention to the project at this critical time. THE INTENT CONTINUES FOR LISTINGS TO BE FREE...and support all of Trinity.

Why on earth did you start this project in 1999?....and ...Why have you worked 7,000 hrs during the last 8 years on it?
Answer: Because it was clear then, and continues to be today that nobody was going to even try to actually do the kind of internet marketing that is required to compete in today's Tourism, Business and other arenas. I periodically tried to get something going with the appropriate groups, but there was/is NO interest in funding or working on such a project for the benefit of the entire county. The commercial equivalent investment would be over $200,000.00 to this point in time.
So I continue with my personal internet information project because I can for now. I have clearly demonstrated that it works... and it is time for the community to utilize the power of ADVERTISING on the internet to draw attention to their business, vacation rentals, groups, etc.
I realized in 1993 I could teach myself how to build websites from a book. Then provide them and update them for the project and many groups that can not afford an online presence themselves. Some had websites or would accept my free ones, but no funds to fund a webmaster to update them.
Most of the project's informational pages display simply on any computer, a very few others have a small bit of "glitz"...maybe a "movie" or special graphic. I keep the fact that most people are using "dial up" ISPs at slow speed in mind while I construct the project to make sure that EVERYONE can see the pages, and come spend their money in Trinity.
As to WHY DO I CONTINUE TO WORK ON IT EVERYDAY?.....Because even though I have some personal and financial limitations...I am able as one person to "virtually" (pardon the pun) make a very important impact on our economy and way of life by working in the middle of the day or night as I am able.
I work without most of the forces that doom many community projects from ever happening. Limitations of influence of petty politics, personalities and finances that often keep some worthy projects from ever happening are not present...I work by myself....
Some folks have asked what it would actually cost to pay for such a project each year for the last 7 years. My best guess is that if you could work-out a proprietary relationship with a web design company (20hrs or less a week)..keep expenses relating to keeping the websites/web pages on the internet, maintenance of equipment, few office supplies/services...$25,000 a year.
NOTE: Paying for it was NEVER a consideration, since it takes a healthy economy to fund such a project. The TrinityCam Internet Information Project was devised to allow me to provide an engine to drive the economy and much more FOR FREE....
However, looking at the situation NOW, my hope is that through increasing awareness about the project in the county, growth in advertising
revenue, generosity of community groups, recruiting some volunteer web workers, a small budget for paid web design work and services related to keeping the TrinityCam Information Project on the internet...Adminstration for free...that $2,000 a year or less from TOT funds for a few years would keep it going until no financial assistance would be required.
Also, perhaps some other replacement project could be devised to do a better job, and institutionally insure it would always be in place to benefit Trinity County....It was never my intention to do this forever, just show what can be done...
