NOTE- These are suggestions, not an mega packing list!. You may need more or less than the items listed, your car, van, RV or backpack will likely not hold all of this, nor should it.

Radio - Entertainment - Lighting

• Power Source- Alkaline Batteries, or Rechargeable batteries with vehicle recharger or power supply.
• Portable 12 volt gel cell power supplly with AC/DC charger, cigarette ligher ouput, lamp, etc.
• Try to bring radios, flashlights, lanterns,etc that use same type of batteries DO NOT store all flashlights with batteries inside when you are not using them, put batteries in Zip Lock bag with lantern if possible
• Don't forget spare lamps for flashlights or lanterns
• Flashlight- Large 3 to 5 D cell type, with spare bulb (Aluminum MagLight or HD plastic flashlight, spare set of batteries, lantern type for use as reading lamp, table lamp or area lamp,
• Area Lighting- Lantern with florescent light, gas/propane Coleman Lantern with spare mantles and fuel (w/funnel/filter/matches) or propane cylinder.
• Matches (several stored separately in containers), BIC Lighter, Zippo Lighter, BBQ starter fluid and mechanical match.
• Fuel to start fire- Chemical, Natural

Before You Leave Home

• Walk around the house.. pretend you are a burglar.. how would you break in? can you do anything to make it more secure?
• Did you leave a ladder handy for someone to use to break in?
• Check you outside lighting, consider a motion detector flood light, they are not expensive and are often helpful
• Check out Crime Prevention websites, or check with your local law enforcement agency, they may have a crime prevention specialist that can survey your home or business with some good ideas.
• If you have some valuable or sentimental jewelry at home, consider renting a safe deposit box at local bank, and use it, rotate a piece or two out of box, take pictures, keep pictures of items in box.
• Control your keys, change the outside entry locks from time to time. If you feel you must have a key outside..be creative and hid it in an area NOT ajacent to the door, and public view.
• If you want to leave key with neighbor, seal the key in an envelope, sign the openings, and put plastic tape over seams.. It protects both of you.
• Turn on answering machine if you need to retrieve calls on vacation.. (do not say you are on vacation..) sorry we missed you..etc.
• Consider a couple of interior lights, and radio on timer
• Have neighbor take in mail, newspapers, etc (don't leave in a box easily seen through window...)
• Turn on Burglar Alarm..no alarm..hide good stuff, leave some costume jewelry where it can be found. Contact Trinty Alarms-(800) T-ALARM-U, 825-2768 for estimate.
• Construct a "hidden" security storage area, false closet back, under floor with carpet over it in closet, in attic, near crawlway entrance (keep hatch clean)..be creative and DO NOT TELL ANYONE THAT DOES NOT NEED TO KNOW!

• extra set of keys to car and house.
• Tell neighbor or family member where you are going and supply make, model, color and license number of vehicle you are in. Writing this down and mailing or personal delivery of info best.
