    • INCIWEB- PIGEON FIRE-
    • PIGEON MAP- Latest is 9/6
    • SATURDAY,SEPT 9th FIRE REPORT
    • Weather Changes today anticipated soon that will effect fire activity.

    • PUBLIC SAFETY-EVACUATIONS- Due to a weather front predicted to move into the area, an evacuation of 10-14 homes was ordered yesterday. The structures under evacuation orders are located along the North Fork of the Trinity from Hobo Gulch south to Helena. Several homeowners that left are staying close to fire management monitoring the fire's progress.

Voluntary evacuations for the communities of Big Flat and Helena have been in place for several days. Del Loma, Big Bar and Denny are also threatened, if weather conditions change. Highway 299 is open, with escorted travel over a short distance along Hwy 299 near Helena when repairmen are working to replace burned poles and transmission lines. Check with CalTrans, Forest Service or the web sites noted below for trail and road closures before traveling in the area. Fire Danger is still VERY HIGH.

    • 2:45PM- Saturday- 09/09/06- UPDATE FROM INTERAGENCY TEAM 1- Thanks- Ray CONTACT# - (530) 623-9195 - 623-9257 623-

    • NEW- CANYON CREEK- 48HR EVACUATION ADVISORY GIVEN- TCSO & FIRE PERSONNEL ARE ADVISING RESIDENTS IN THEIR HOMES. (advistory only- to give people time to pack, plan, etc.
    • The TCSO and FIRE Management have GIS maps, and are making notes as to who lives where, protection issues, where water is, etc. in potential evacuation areas.
    • The TCSO,Undersheriff Dave Laffrancini, stated at the meeting that nobody will be arrested and dragged out of their homes if they refuse to evacuate. (only a few circumstances could ever warrant this sort of action action).

    • 7:00PM- UPDATE FROM INFO VIEWED BY WEBMASTER ON CH22 Videotape of Saturday's Community Meeting at Junction City.
      • Arrangements are being made for ANIMALS small and big- Weaverville animal shelter, TC Fairgrounds at Hayfork.
      • RED CROSS SHELTERS: The Salyer Shelter is open at Wayside Church, The Lewiston Shelter will open as needed at the Lewiston Recreation Hall. (Information will be posted here later)
      • OPINION: I was very proud of the men and women from the INTERAGENCY MANAGEMENT TEAM 1 after watching the Videotape. They were clearly addressing ALL the concerns of the Citizens at the meeting, and stressing their desire to communicate information.
      • Your TRINITY COUNTY GOVERNMENT was VERY WELL REPRESENTED at the meeting, Supervisor Howard Freeman, Supervisor Jeff Morse, and several department heads were seen in the video. Some STATE and FEDERAL agencies too.
      • The fire management officials stressed the difficulty of the terrain, the weather conditions, the few defensible locations, their plans with lots of "fall-back" options.
      • AIRCRAFT ACTIVITY TODAY- Very LIMITED VISIBILITY, few flights, some supplies delivered to crews they could access, some limited fire fighting where the wind blew the low-hanging smoke away. The TEMPERATURE INVERSION keeps the smoke covering the fire. Helicopters trailing 100' lines can not get much lower than 300'above the ground, and can hardly see to drop water or deliver food/supplies to crews.

      • DAILY FIRE REPORT- Sunday, Sept 10th.
      • Low activity on the BACKBONE RIDGE fireline, improving the width bulldozers and hand crews to contain the fire activity. This technology includes scraping fuel away, leading fire to rocks, etc.
      • The Mansanita Ridge Drainage is being carefully watched, as the weather influences the fire activity greatly.
      • The weather inversion, is keeping smoke close to ground, and making AVIATION very difficult.
      • Next phone call to the INTERAGENCY TEAM will be after 6PM tonight.

      • DAILY FIRE REPORT- 9/18-

      • Still trying to get SUNDAY's DAILY FIRE REPORT.

      • Sunday's Big Bar FIRE MEETING: About 40 people attended the meeting. It was videotaped by CH-22 Trinity Community Access. There was a comprehensive briefing covering the entire perimeter of the fire, with strategy and commentary about the behavior of the Fire. Structure Protection and defensive strategies were discussed. The weather and the effect of the Winds, etc. were stressed.

Residents and Business Owners asked many questions about the closure of parts of the forest/roads and now the River itself. Issues were discussed like; can you fish in river from private property (non forest land).. THE CLOSURE ONLY APPLIES TO FOREST SERVICE LAND. IF A PROPERTY OWNER/OWNER OWNS LAND FRONTING RIVER, IT DOES NOT APPLY.

Issues about closures of some areas, but no enforcement and logic of some of the locations. FIRE FIGHTER SAFETY and citizen safety are primary concerns. Also the potential volatility of the fire, if there was big wind shift and spot fires.

The fire managers said that they would take the concerns higher up in command structure for possible modification of the current closures/etc.

TCSO U/S Dave Laffranchini reviewed the 48hr Evacuation Advisories, and the fact that the TCSO was not going to force anyone to leave, etc.

THIS IS HUNTING SEASON: Hunters seem to be in CLOSED parts of the Forest. CA Fish and Game says NO refunds on DEER tags due to fire.

SEE SPECIAL NOTICE: RIVER CLOSURE INFORMATION- Following this entry.

SPECIAL NOTICE - TRINITY RIVER CLOSURE: (NOTE: APPLIES TO FEDERAL FOREST/BLM LANDS...MAY NOT APPLY TO PRIVATE PROPERTY or RECREATIONAL BUSINESS that OWNS RIVER-FRONT PROPERTY) -Contact RV,Camping & Resorts for details.

ACCORDING TO E.B.Dugan: (Ed is active with various river/fishing organizations)- "This just came about and I am trying to get the information out, -The USFS has closed the Trinity River to ALL recreation as of this morning, until further notice-. The river is closed from Junction City down to New River - Shasta Trinity Nationl Forest Line because of the fire and smoke conditions. WEBMASTER'S NOTE: Best Guess is that there will be some modification/clarification to this order. Relating to private vs Federal Lands, etc. WILL POST INFO AS SOON AS CLARIFIED.

      • TODAY's TRINITY COUNTY SUPERVISOR'S MEETING - Fire Related Activity- ( 9AM At Weaverville Library Building):
The USFS representative reviewed the status of the fire, using recent FIRE MAP. This map is on display at the USFS Weaverville Ranger Station.
        • The USFS addressed various "rumors" related to fire fighting strategy and techniques as unfounded.
        • The USFS is trying to purchase supplies from local suppliers when possible to help our negatively impacted economy when possible.
        • The USFS addressed the USFS / BLM LAND and ROAD CLOSURES. They are aware of the impact to HUNTERS with hunting season open. They emphasized that FIREFIGHTER and PUBLIC SAFETY concerns by the INTERAGENCY FIRE MANAGEMENT TEAM 2 have resulted in closures. It was noted that SPOT FIRES even 2 miles away from the main fireline are erupting.
        • [Note: THE CLOSURES APPLY TO FEDERAL LANDS ONLY.. if Private RV,Camper,Resort owns riverfront property, the guests may enjoy the river from that location (FISHING,etc.). CONTACT AREA BUSINESS FOR EXACT DETAILS... your mileage may vary!]
        • The TC BOS renewed their thanks for all the fire fighting activity, but also made the point that existing FUELS from previous fire events remain a FIRE HAZZARD. (The Oregon Fire and recent JUNCTION FIRE are examples).
        • To contact the Weaverville Ranger station- (530) 623-2121
        • The TC BOS restated the negative financial impact of the series of events, High River Flows (Poor Fishing & changes in Fishing Regulations), previous and present FIRE events(Visitor/Tourism Impact). State and Federal Legislators have been contacted for assistance.
        • Reminder: Weaverville Local TV Access CH-22 broadcasts and plays replays of Meetings.
