My Biggest Regret
For all my life I'll ponder
the day I came to see
my precious, darling daughter
where she lives in the valley,
I was on my way to Texas
driving through that night
but could only stay a moment
now that moment fills me with fright.
She didn't seem to mind
that I had to go,
because I couldn't stay
this, she seemed to know
so I suffered it alone
until she said to me
"I cried that night after you'd gone
because I didn't get to see
my mother for a while longer
since much time had gone by
And now that I know I hurt her
when I think of it, I cry.
So many years I've missed of her
I hope one day I'll see,
a day where we can linger
in each others company.
