I Swoon
I stare aghast in wonder
and what do I decree?
There's nothing in this world of ours
quite like a blackberry!
My eyes take in, the endless rows,
bursting with delight,
as nature dances red to black,
what a luscious sight.
I can't imagine anywhere
that I would rather be,
than sitting here, alone, right now
in the patch of blackberry.
I swoon, I swoon,
amongst the rows,
of windswept leaves
of berry boughs,
it captivates and it enchants,
eliminating, natures dance.
It makes me sad that I must leave,
but I'm consoled by berries I retrieve.
Never has there been a better day,
I'm sorry if you've never felt,
just this way.
If you've never tasted blackberries before
oh, what a treat
do you have in store.
Be sure to taste them
ripe from the vine,
it's surely my
favorite way to dine.

I wrote this years ago, but reading it and remembering
that day, always makes me smile.
