Thank you for giving me James GOODWIN & Janet PROVAN - I knew nothing of them. Alexander GOODWIN & Margaret RENNIE are the great great grandparents of my wife, Margaret Dunn Fleming GOODWIN. Their son Alexander GOODWIN (b. 6 Aug 1806) married Janet EWING (b. 19 Oct 1800) on 10 May 1829. They had children Margaret (1830), Alexander (1832), Helen (1836), Ann (1841), Henry (1842), James (1844). James GOODWIN married Margaret DUNN (b. 20 Jun 1855) on 21 Feb 1873. They had children Annie Yuill (1873), Janet Ewing (1875), Margaret Dunn (1877), Alexander (1879), Jane (1881), John (1833), James (1885), Thomas Dunn (26 Feb 1887), Robert (1888), Archibald (1890), Henry (1892), Andrew Dunn (1894), Helen Dunn (1896). Thomas Dunn GOODWIN married Agnes Fleming FRAME (20 Aug 1895) on 27 Nov 1928. They had children Agnes Fleming Dunn (1929), my wife Margaret Dunn Fleming (29 Oct 1936), Janette Young Dunn (1938). In the 1881 census Alexander GOODWIN & Janet EWING were farming at Stoneyinch, Dunipace; James GOODWIN & Margaret DUNN were farming one mile to the east at Carron Glen, Dunipace. Margaret DUNN's parents, John DUNN & Ann YUILL, were farming at Broadside, Denny - less than a mile south of Stoneyinch, across the River Carron. The 1881 census also gave an example of double counting: Annie Young GOODWIN & Janet Ewing GOODWIN were entered by their parents at Carron Glen and also by their grandparents at Broadside. 'My' surnames are CUNNINGHAM, CAMERON, BELL & DUNCAN from the islands of Cumbrae & Bute and CASSELS from Closeburn, Dumfries & Carluke, Lanark. Despite the 100% Scottish forebears, we live in Portsmouth on the south coast of England - perhaps because the weather is a little warmer! Hope this has been of some value. Yours John
