Her obituary in the Daily Herald, February 26, 1999, states that Frieda attended grade school and high school in Dwight, LaSalle, and Plainfield, where her father served as a minister in the Evangelical (Methodist) Church. She attended North Central College for two years and then entered the Presbyterian Hospital nursing program in Chicago. She completed that program in 1941, and became a registered nurse. For many years she worked at Fairbury Hospital, primarily in surgery.
