| In today’s society, many Transgendered
or Transsexuals refer to themselves as "Intersexuals". But
though their bodies may be physically altered, they are still biologically
unchanged. These people undergo excruciating pain, lengthy
treatments and expense to have their external bodies match their inner
identity and spirits as women or men.
These pre-operative/post-operative sexually altered
individuals are often inaccurately perceived and described as
hermaphrodites, or "he/she," but they are not Intersexuals or
Hermaphrodites. They are transsexuals or Transgendered..

| However, enough transsexual people expressed unease with
this term due to its anti-transsexual historical roots that transsexual
people stopped using it as an umbrella term. It is recommend
using "trans" as the umbrella term |
